The emphasis of the FRIGO company philosophy is on traditional values. FRIGO Coldstore Logistics is an owner-operated, flexible and customer-oriented company focusing entirely on customer needs and requirements.
The FRIGO Coldstore Logistics complex is conveniently located in the heart of the container terminal and features direct access to the A7 motorway.
Following general re-structuring the new high-tech cold store in Hamburg/Altenwerder was completed in 2005. On a total area of 16,500 square metres it provides pallet storage capacity for 34,000 units in two temperature zones, with 30,000 spaces in a refrigerated zone of minus 18 to minus 28 degrees Celsius and the remaining 4,000 units in a zero-degree Celsius zone for fresh produce.
The specially developed software, created to optimise cold store logistics, speeds up processes such as storage, stock control, packing and movements in/out. A special, password-protected interface allows users to review and check stock, movements and lots at any time, supported by our bar code system which ensures exact stock allocation. The use of radio-controlled order picking equipment with integrated touch screens and scales make voucherless order picking a reliable operation, hence enabling order picking of packaging units as well as unstandardised stock. If desired, pricing and labelling can be carried out on an individual basis in our separate refrigerated repacking room. The large order picking zone for frozen goods ensures fast, easy movements in and out. Not only does the cold store's oxygen-reduced climate greatly reduce the risk of fire it also benefits the shelf life of the goods in storage.
We place great emphasis on the use of environmentally sound technology and energy efficiency. Both factors are among the basic requirements that highlight the high standards we set. FRIGO Coldstore Logistics employed every energy-saving possibility for all structural-physical aspects of the new building, from insulation to refrigeration. Many of the building measures used were award-winners and FRIGO Coldstore Logistics was named environmental partner of the City of Hamburg.
The building measures referred to include:
- Temperature-controlled loading zone as part of an optimal cold chain.
- Use of high-tech lock system to minimise loss of refrigeration during movements in/out.
- The hybrid liquefier used in the cold store saves appx 15,000 cubic metres of water per year.
- The computer-controlled movable shelf storage system is a great space saver.
- A high-tech, energy-efficient cold store featuring four rotary screw compressors and two reciprocating compressors.
